An early morning shoot at Flamborough Head Lighthouse in North Yorkshire with Corynn Barrett of Angel of Me Photography. This trip was both a success in respect of the shots I got but in some ways a disaster as I accidentally wrecked my Canon 40D. The first shot was taken in the Car park of the lighthouse where we warmed up in the car with a flask of coffee after both me and the camera took a dip in the sea. The time was around 7am about 45 minutes before the sun was due to rise. There was already a bit of light in the sky but it gave the clouds a deep blue tone which was further emphasised with the HDR processing. It had rained for the last 20 minutes or so of the ride to the lighthouse, I must admit I was panicking a little bit as we had no umbrella and we were not prepared for bad weather. Thankfully the weather held our for the entire 2 hour or so shoot and we’d had just enough to form some nice puddles to grab some clear reflection shots. I tried several different compositions of this shot settling on the portrait frame shot at a low angle with my Sigma 10-20mm lens. HDR processing while not essential really brought out the colours and contrast in this shot and the time of day really suited this processing style.
This was my second trip to Flamborough Head, its a great place to shoot on the northern east coast of England, the lighthouse is a draw in itself but as you’ll see from the shots below the chalk cliffs and rocks in the bay below also keep me coming back to this spot. The east coast lends itself well to sunrise shoots and whilst I didn’t managed to get any after the sun came up due to the huge freak wave which ruined my Camera, Corynn did get some good images. The corner of the bay blocks direct line of sight to the sun but from on top of the cliffs you can get a good view .
Really gutted about my camera especially over the last day or so when we’ve had some awesome snowy weather. Such a shame I didnt have my body to get out with. Anyways I hope you like the shots.
Finally I’ve tried a new plugin that allows me to embed google maps into the post under the location of the shot. Seems like I need the pro version to add more to other posts… Does anyone know if there is a good free one that would do the job?
